2006 Annual Meeting
The New Hampshire Minority Health Coalition hosted its 2006 Annual Meeting on April 25, at PSNH in Manchester. Coalition staff presented the Community Health Investment Award to the Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester, the Sandra T. Hicks Minority Health Champion Award to Florentina Dinu and Delmy Bonilla, and a Lifetime Achievement Award to Reverend Bertha Perkins. Janet Scott-Harris, Regional Program Consultant for Minority Health from the Office of the Regional Health Administrator at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, gave the keynote address. Foreign Language Medical and Legal Interpretation
The New Hampshire Minority Health Coalition and the Southern New Hampshire Area Health Education Center support the training and development of a medical interpretation workforce. Click here to learn more.

- *Bright Start* educates pregnant and parenting women focusing on the development stages of their infants.
- Cultural Competency provides workshops and consultations with agencies and medical health, mental health and human services providers to increase effectiveness in cross-cultural interactions.
- HIV Prevention provides street outreach, VOICES intervention sessions, community building events and bilingual support to collaborating agencies in order to reduce the spread of HIV.
- Medical Interpretation Services Project trains medical interpreters, educates health professionals in cultural competency and the use of medical interpreters, and teaches consumers with language barriers about medical interpretation throughout the state.
- NH REACH 2010 Initiative focuses on diabetes and cardiovascular disease in Latino and African Descendent communities throughout Southern New Hampshire and includes:
- Change for Life, which helps these communities prevent diabetes and hypertension through group support activities led by trained community members; and
- Let's Talk Diabetes, which provides home-based education and support to community members with diabetes and their families.
- Research & Evaluation Group offers quality health research and evaluation services to community-based organizations, public organizations, school departments and businesses in New England .

 To identify underserved populations in the state with barriers to accessing appropriate health care, to advocate for adequate and appropriate services and to educate and empower these populations to be active participants in their own health care.

The Coalition has staff from more than nine countries, including Mexico, El Salvador, China and the Sudan speaking more than seven different languages. We are dedicated to improving the health of minority populations throughout New Hampshire.
