Program Description

To provide, in English and Spanish, education, support, and direct service to African Descendants and Latinos with diabetes and their families.

Let's Talk Diabetes is a community-based program of education and support for African Descendents and Latinos. The purpose of the program is to stimulate healthy habits through education in English and Spanish and social support among African Descendents and Latinos and their families. The program began in the summer of 2000 in Manchester and expanded to Nashua in the fall of 2002.

The program consists of a monthly meeting in each city with time for socializing and group support. At each class Let's Talk Diabetes and Hablemos de Diabetes facilitators find creative and engaging ways to:

    • Eat healthy
    • Get physically active
    • Lose excess weight
    • Quit smoking
    • Manage stress
    • Take prescribed medications
    • Get regular health care
  • Have an in-depth discussion about one of the Steps with activities to enhance learning; and
  • Hear from guest speakers from community resources that share information about available programs for improving health and quality of life in the Nashua and Manchester area.
